It will never be easy!
Learning a new language is not easy and it never will be. Unfortunately, due to the nature of today’s fast paced social media obsessed world of instant gratification, students learning a new language can be and are easily discouraged. Times have changed and technology has gotten better and people can do more than ever when learning a new language or taking on any new challenge in general however, this does not mean that learning a new language such as English will be quick and easy.
According to the Cambridge English website, it takes approximately 200 hours of guided learning in order to jump up one level in the Common European Framework of Reference levels. This means that with help from your teacher, your books, and your own self study, that you can jump levels in 100 days if you were to study 2 hours/day consistently.
Eat, sleep, rave, repeat
I tell you this because every new English learner needs to know that it is not going to be a quick study of vocab words, some repetition here and there, take a test, and then you’re an English speaker. No, it does not work like that. You must internalize the language. You have to make it a part of who you are. You have to think in that language. There will be websites and apps that will advertise the quickest way to learning English is with them or they have the best algorithm to “hack” your brain to learn English quicker. These are all false.
Just do it already!
The only way to improve your English speaking/reading/writing skills is to practice everyday. While you personally may not need 200 hours to jump CEFR levels, it may take you more or less time depending on how you study. Have you learned a different second language before? How many hours a day will you study? How old are you? How much exposure to the language do you get outside of your lessons? All of these factors contribute to how fast you can learn English or any other language.
